Abnormalities in the formation and function of the heart during development often lead to congenital heart defects or cause severe disease later in life. In the Chen lab, we take a multidisciplinary approach using zebrafish, mouse, and cell-based models to understand the genetic, molecular, and cellular bases of cardiovascular development and apply these principles to develop novel strategies to treat cardiovascular diseases.
